The tourism association Pulkau and its surrounding area want to become established and known as ‘wine hiking’ area and want to raise people’s awareness of this cultural asset. Along the paths in-between the vineyards walkers should encounter old dialectical idioms and words describing the topic wine growing. This way an additional motivation for walking and hiking should be created. At the same time people’s attention should be turned to regional dialects and the wine growing area of Pulkau.

The festival Retz has been taking place for 13 years now in co-operation with the music festival Znojmo. During the summer season this event offers art at the highest stage in the Weinviertel, including church operas, theatre performances, literature events and reading as well as concerts. By offering more than 40 performances on this side and across the Austrian-Czech border it has developed into one of the main attractions of the year within the cultural area of Lower Austria and Moravia and has become highly artistically appreciated by both regions.
To strengthen the residents’ identification with the festival and to counteract the latent vacancy in the town centre, the association ‘Kellermuseum Retz’, Weinquartier Retz and Probus (a wine growers’ initiative of the Generali group) is planning a LEADER project covering the topic ‘Vitalising the town centre in co-operation with the festival Retz’.

For many years businesses from the Weinviertel wish to be present on the Viennese market in a better way. With the help of different initiatives there have already been organised selected events in Vienna (e.g. Weinviertel DAC presentations, regional products on market places and various individual initiatives). Unfortunately they were not promoted under the brand name ‘Dach Weinviertel’.

The main issue in the Weinviertel is the wine including Kellergassen (i.e. streets with wine cellars), wine festivals etc. as well as gastronomic consumption, which this fertile region has to offer. The well-established bicycle routes and the Weinviertel Way of St. James offer ideal conditions to sporty guests.
The Viennese should get to know the Weinviertel with its touristic offers but also the regional products better.
